Josh Thompson will be hitting the road this weekend as part of the Country Throwdown tour — and Josh says he’s really jazzed about the tour because not only is he looking forward to playing for the fans, he also gets to be part of a show with friends like Justin Moore and Sunny Sweeney, as well as one of Josh’s musical heroes, Gary Allan.

“I’m on the Throwdown tour with my B.F.F. Justin Moore and Gary Allan, which I’m super, super pumped up about ’cause I’ve…he’s probably been my biggest modern country influence, ever. I mean, since Smoke Rings in the Dark came out. And Sunny Sweeney’s gonna be on there — love her, too. There’s gonna be a couple other acts. It’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be a blast.”

Thompson says that when you get the right group of people together, big tours like Country Throwdown can be a great time off-stage as well as on.  “There is time to hang out with everybody on those big tours, if you make it. It can turn into one gigantic party, you know, backstage, but that comes with that comfort ability level. Like, Justin and I have known each other, his band and my band have known each other for a while. We’ve been out…I mean, so there’s that, you know, that camaraderie there. I mean, I’ve known Sunny for a while, and her band and our band and everybody’s band really gets along, so this tour I’m really lookin’ forward to. The only person that I don’t know that well is Gary. But hopefully, this summer’ll fix it.”

The tour kicks off today, Friday, May 18th, in Gulfport, Mississippi! For tour dates and a complete line-up of artists, also including Rodney Atkins, Eric Paslay, and more, check out the official tour website at CountryThrowdown.com.

The holidays may come with their share of head-scratching shopping dilemmas, but when it comes to Josh Thompson’s family and friends, Josh says he’s an easy guy to shop for — and as for being the shopper himself, sometimes gift cards are the way to go, but generally, Josh says he’s pretty good at choosing the right present.

Josh says he thinks he’s a good gift-giver. “I think I am. I mean, I bought my sister a iPod last year — one of those iPods that…iPod touch — and she’s been playin’ Words with Friends for…the last year non-stop. She’s got carpal tunnel now, so she loves, like she just loves that gift, so I feel like I hit that one on the head. But like, I have nieces now, and like, they’re like 12, 14, 16, and it’s hard to buy for a girl in her teens, I feel like, so gift cards are probably the best way. That way they can just go get whatever they want, their size, it’s fine.”

Thompson says he’s easy to shop for — and also happens to answer the age-old question of boxers vs briefs. “I’m easy. Gimme some socks, gimme some boxers, some flannels always work, or just, like, a gift card to Bass Pro Shop. It’s all…it all works.”

So is Josh Thompson a dancing machine? Well, we’re not quite sure about that, but we do know he’s excited about having a song included on Country Dance 2, the country dance video game sequel, released earlier this month for Wii. Along with the Josh hit, “Won’t Be Lonely Long,” the game features 31 songs in all, including tracks from Miranda Lambert, Jake Owen, Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley, Kellie Pickler, George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and a bunch more.

Josh says he’s happy to have a song featured on the new Country Dance 2 for Wii,   “I know, how about that? Everybody go out and get Country Dance one and Country Dance 2 for Christmas. It’s great exercise for the children, and they get to listen to some good country music, get ‘em away from all that hip-hop, and they get to, you know, kind of enjoy family time and learn how to dance. It’s quite an all-inclusive gift, really.”  Even Thompson has danced to Country Dance 2!! “Of course I’m a dancer! Um, no, but I do have the first country line…I mean, I had to plug it in and just see what it was, and you know, see what that dance they did, so I did that. Yes, I danced to it, in my living room at three in the morning, but that’s fine.”

Country Dance 2 for Wii is now available. With the holiday’s coming, this will make a perfect gift under the tree or in a stocking!

Luke Bryan CMT On Tour - CountryMusicRocks.net

Luke Bryan wrapped his first major headlining tour over the weekend – “CMT ON TOUR: Luke Bryan Tailgates & Tanlines” – performing in 22 cities with opening acts Lee Brice, Josh Thompson and CMT’s New Superstar winner Matt Mason.  The 2011 tour has become one of the most successful to date.

“This year, we witnessed one of the most successful tours in the now 10-year history of CMT ON TOUR, with Luke playing to packed houses every night,” said Leslie Fram, senior vice president of music strategy, CMT.  “He is an undeniable talent and over-delivered on his promise to entertain, evident by watching the crowd dance and sing along to every song.”

To get a glimpse of behind the scenes action on the tour as well as Luke performing his current smash hit single “I Don’t Want This Night To End” from his Capitol Records Nashville album tailgates& tanlines, watch here.

Luke’s confident and lively performances were heralded by concert promoters alike throughout its run.

Todd Boltin of Variety Attractions said, “(With) each show I’ve watched, Luke’s confidence seems to grow stronger and stronger.  He is connecting with the crowd the way Garth used to in the early 90′s.  I watched the crowd break a sweat singing and dancing along with him.”

“America, meet Country’s next Superstar… his name is Luke Bryan!,” exclaimed Don Kronberg of NitelLite.  “He delivered a live show that looked like it took years to create…he’s ready to shoot right to the top.”

Connie Hunt of The Arena in Corbin, Kentucky shared, “I have to say with 20 years in this business I was blown away by Luke Bryan!!  It caught me off guard; his live show is just incredible!!   He did not stop the energy level from the time he hit the stage and he had the crowd in the palm of his hand and kept them on their feet!  The screaming reminded me of old Beatles performance footage.   He is the talk of the town as he has wowed everyone including me.  I don’t write many quotes, if ever, about watching an artist perform but to borrow a line from Mark Knopfler (song) ‘this young man’s future’s so bright he’s definitely gonna have to wear shades.’”

During a two-week break of the CMT ON TOUR, Luke took his “Farm Tour” to six cities and played for over 42,000 fans, raising funds for local college scholarships in each of the cities he performed.

2011 was the tenth-annual CMT ON TOUR which launched in 2002 and has featured superstars Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland and Keith Urban.  The 2011 CMT ON TOUR was produced by Lindsay Bertelli of Reach, LLC.
